Research Interests
I am interested in magnetic materials for data storage purposes. I work mainly on micromagnetic modelling of thin magnetic films for hard disks, and on experimental characterisation of novel materials.
I am involved in the INSIC Extremely High Density Recording (EHDR) programme. I am a member of the INSIC strategy team determining the architecture and design of future 1Tb/square inch hard disk products. Such products are expected to be available within 3-5 years and will be capable of storing in the region of 100 GBytes on a 1 inch microdrive.
I am also interested in novel magnetic storage media, and have undertaken experminental characterisation of nanoscale self-assembled media and also of nanostructured materials.
I work in collaboration with academic and industrial research groups, including Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, San Jose, USA (formerly IBM) and Seagate Research, Pittsburgh, USA.
